Jagex has announced that a wildly successful community poll is driving the next development milestone in Old School RuneScape. In December 2022, developers set up a poll to determine the next feature to bring into OSRS. Over 190,000 players participated and voted to add the MMO’s first-ever new skill. According to Jagex, this is the most successful poll in OSRS’s 15-year history.
All new content added to Old School RuneScape must have majority player approval before it enters development. Since the poll launched in December 2022, over 190,000 players voted on the future of the fantasy MMOs skill base, a record for voter turnout. As explained in Old School RuneScape’s community blog, with over 80% approval, this means that the new skill will enter Community Consultation to determine what type of skill players want.
Once the decision to add a new skill was made, developers sent out an in-depth survey to gather data on what skills players want most. The survey due date is January 31st, when devs will begin analyzing the results. Additionally, a Community Panel of 100 players will be on hand in Discord to provide feedback to the dev team about which proposed skill they most want to add.
