Psyonix has announced a partnership with the NFL to bring the Super Bowl LV Celebration to Rocket League. The themed event will run from Tuesday, February 2nd through Monday, February 8th. In addition to exclusive items that can be earned or purchased, players will be able to take part in an all-new game mode called Gridiron.
Gridiron is a 4v4 LTM (limited-time mode) that is played on an appropriately hash marked field of dreams complete with the NFL logo at center field. Rather than the standard RL ball, players will be punting around an American football. Any player that touches the ball will find it magically glued to the roof of their vehicle. The ball can be handed off or stolen simply by touching it. Carriers can single-jump but double-jumping will see the ball dislodge itself and become free to pick up by anyone. Players “running” the ball through the goal will score 7 points while 3 points are awarded if the ball is passed or if it is loose.
Three Event Challenges are also available that will assist players in unlocking the Gridiron Guru title, NFL Wheels, and 20,000 XP.
For their effort, players can earn some sweet loot: “Equip your favorite team’s Decal, hit the Gridiron, and be sure to share some of your wild highlights! Mention @RocketLeague on Twitter using the hashtag #RLGridiron. HUT HUT HIKE!”
