Summer Games Done Quick wrapped up this weekend and the charity streaming event broke its own online record by raising more than $2.8 million.
Thanks to the generous donations of the public, Summer Games Done Quick did some serious numbers as it wrapped up activities over the weekend. While there’s a tendency to focus on viewership when it comes to streaming, this time around it’s all about the money raised for charity. Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders will benefit from more than 2.8 million after the online event ran between 4 July – 11 July 2021.
For those that aren’t too familiar with the idea, the Games Done Quick is a series of events that run on a semi annual basis and aim to speed through some amazing video games in the minimum amount of time necessary. This speedrunning challenge has grown over more than 10 years to do some seriously fast and funny play throughs. This year a huge portion of the cash that made up the final total of $2,897,704 came from donations made to make character names, chose mods, and more.
If you weren’t able to catch all the Summer Games Done Quick then you can head over to the on demand versions of JCog’s cartridge-swapping run of Paper Mario over on Twitch or YouTube. SGDQ Online 2021 will be followed later in the summer by the Fleet Fatales speedrunning event from August 15-21, 2021. Games Done Quick also announced that Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 will return January 9-16, 2022. Find out more and prepare your wallet for next time on the official website now.
