Super Bomberman R Online is set to explode across PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC when it launches on 27 May.
Konami Digital Entertainment, B.V. has just announced that the cute blue pyro is back with plenty of online action. Coming to PC and console on 27 May, Super Bomberman R Online is bringing a new way to play Bomberman and it’s going free to play. Previously available on the Google Stadia, the wide release of this Bomberman takes inspiration from the original Super Bomberman R and throws together the 8 Bomber Brothers and plenty of other miscreants as participants plunge into massive 64-player, online battle royales.
As players blast through battlefields, find hidden power-ups and use them to blow away foes through 16 starting battlefields, Konami is out to recreate the same frantic action that makes Bomberman a beloved franchise while adding something new to the mix. Alongside the launch, Bomberman fans can get competitive as the online version also adds new in-game seasons for all platforms. Each season will last three months and bring new items, cosmetics and a new Bomber hero. Season 1 is headlined by the addition of Metal Gear Solid veteran, Old Snake Bomber, obtainable with in-game “Bomber Coins”.
Battle Pass & Premium Packs
With any free to play competitive title, it’s all about how you looks and the Battle Pass will make its way into action here. Two tiers of Battle Pass will launch on 27 May; Silver Passes and Gold Passes. The Silver Pass will be free for all players; the more they play Battle 64 mode, the more they can level up their rank and earn cosmetic rewards including taunts, accessories and poses. There will be 100 ranks within the Silver Pass, providing plenty of free content during each season. The Gold Pass will offer greater rewards over 100 ranks, including more cosmetics and other items that will let you look even hotter before you blow up.
Players looking to ump in early can check out more about this free to play title over at the official website or check out an upfront premium pack that also unlocks 14 additional bomber characters that pay homage to classic Konami IP’s such as Gradius, Silent Hill, Castlevania and more! While Super Bomberman R Online does seem to be leaning heavily into the monetisation, as long as we get to blow something up then I’m willing to give this new Bomberman a try.
