Developer and publisher Ubisoft held the annual Ubisoft Forward online event where players could tune in for an Assassin’s Creed showcase to learn more about the future of the series. The team officially announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage and revealed a number of other games that will be joining the illustrious series at a later point.
Coming in 2023 to all major platforms, AC Mirage will take place in ninth-century Baghdad, 20 years before the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and center on the coming-of-age story of Basim Ibn Is’haq, a character introduced as a part of Eivor’s journey. The developers describe Mirage as a shorter, more narrative-driven game than the recent entries in the series:
“Built as an homage to the first Assassin’s Creed games, Mirage pays tribute to the series’ roots, as players join the proto-Assassin order known as the Hidden Ones and grow to become a master assassin. Baghdad in the ninth century was a bustling metropolis, and it serves as the perfect dense, urban hunting ground as Basim stalks his prey using the series’ largest assortment of tools to date. While they haven’t quite adopted the name “Assassins” at this point in history, make no mistake: The Hidden Ones are a powerful and established order, with resources and the all-important creed to guide them. As Basim explores Baghdad, he’ll be able to get contracts and upgrades from a network of Hidden One bureaus throughout the city, collect clues on his targets, and take them down with swift assassinations.”
The rest of the revealed titles had much less information available about them just yet:
- Assassin’s Creed Codename RED is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec (AC: Odyssey, AC: Syndicate) and will be the next evolution of Assassin’s Creed’s open-world RPG design and take players to the long-awaited setting of feudal Japan;
- Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal with Clint Hocking serving as creative director;
Both RED and HEXE will be a part of the AC INFINITY, a hub that will connect players through different types of Assassin’s Creed experiences, old and new. Those looking for the return of multiplayer as a standalone experience should be pleased.
- Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade is an AAA RPG action-adventure game for mobile devices, set in ancient China. The free-to-play game will allow players to create their own character and discover a unique standalone storyline.
Last but not least, Ubisoft shared an update on the live-action AC series being developed by Ubisoft Film & Television and Netflix. According to the official site, the adaptation will be helmed by showrunner, Jeb Stuart (Vikings: Valhalla, Die Hard). Ubisoft and Netflix are also working together to develop an Assassin’s Creed game exclusively for the platform.
