Valve has published a new blog post on Steam Community site announcing changes coming to gift system. The developers note that gifting process had a bunch of friction for a while. The team wants to smooth some rougher corners.
Steam Gifting Changes
The system now morphs into the direct exchange between the buyer and the receiver, with the Gift to Inventory and Gift to E-mail systems retiring.
- Scheduling of gifts is much easier. You will be able to buy gifts months ahead of time and have them delivered at the exact date.
- Declined gifts get refunded for the buyer instead of being placed into inventory.
- You will always know for sure if gifting to another country will be available before purchase.
Those changes are now live. Pre-existing gifts remain unchanged.
