Team Ninja, the outfit behind the iconic Nioh, just confirmed a new epic adventure titled Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
Confirmed earlier this evening by publisher Koei Tecmo, this enticing mix of supernatural adventure and Three Kingdom thriller is set to come to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC via Windows and Steam, and Games Pass in early 2023. Not only does it play on established Three Kingdom tropes, but invites players to enter a world twisted by darkness. Instead of the Later Han Dynasty, players will be plunged into a dark fantasy realm where demons plague the Three Kingdoms.
Unfortunately, nobody will be wielding any great powers to get by. Instead, this story focuses on a lowly militia soldier’s strenuous fight for survival. Living by the sword, they will fight off monstrous visions and enemy soldiers using carefully crafted attacks and intricate swordplay, all based on Chinese martial arts. Whether you overwhelm opponents with a flurry of force in a series of intense and bloody slashes or change stance and go on the defensive, just a few critical strikes can change the tide of battle. As you’d expect, things won’t be easy going, with press releases calling it a ‘Masocore experience.’
With the highly regarded Team Ninja producers Fumihiko Yasuda (Nioh) and Masaaki Yamagiwa (Bloodborne) both involved in this upcoming title, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty still ranks as one to watch, even if we’re expecting something more grueling than Elden Ring.
