15+ PC Games That Let You Have a Bit of Romance

As you go through saving one world or galaxy at a time, have you ever stopped to think: “Man, I wish my character would have a significant other to help them out in this adventure”? Well, worry not: we have a list of games that would scratch that amorous itch.

Note: the games are listed not in a ranked order and provide a choice from at least two suitors in addition to the epic story and gameplay. The romances in the list are optional choices and are not pre-scripted at the beginning of the game.

Mass Effect series

In Bioware’s Mass Effect series, players take on the role of Commander Shepard – who can be a male or female – a soldier of the human Alliance. Under your control, Shepard will turn into the best fighter and the icon of the galaxy.

Heart-pounding action meets gripping interactive storytelling where you decide how your unique story unfolds. Assemble and lead your team aboard the SSV Normandy, the most advanced ship in the galaxy, and travel to distant and unexplored star systems. On your journey, meet a cast of intriguing characters each with their own story to tell.

Mass Effect features save-import technology that allows the decision you have made in the first game to be carried to the second and then to third, sometimes having lasting consequences.

The continuation of the trilogy, Mass Effect: Andromeda, is set in a whole different galaxy with its own challenges. Like finding a new home for 100,000 human and alien colonists stuck in cryo-stasis back on the main station while everything goes to hell.

Play as the Pathfinder – a leader of a squad of military-trained explorers. As you unfold the mysteries of the Andromeda Galaxy and the hope for humanity lies on your shoulders – You must ask yourself… How far will you go?

Dragon Age series

Journey into the world of Thedas in Dragon Age. Discover new adventures full of striking characters, powerful magic, and rich storytelling. Meet an incredible number of Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Qunari in a realm where every decision you make echoes across history.

In the trying times of Thedas, your characters would need backup. A cast of people from various backgrounds will come to your aid and will be fighting by your side on the battlefield… as long as you can keep them from leaving your party.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a story-driven open world RPG set in a visually stunning fantasy universe full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. You play as professional monster hunter Geralt of Rivia tasked with finding a child of prophecy in a vast open world rich with merchant cities, pirate islands, dangerous mountain passes, and forgotten caverns to explore.

Besides being able to explore his personal history with Yennefer of Vengerberg and Triss Merigold, Geralt has a handful of opportunities on the side. Check out the Nexus for a variety of fan-made mods!

Fallout 4

Do whatever you want in a massive open world with hundreds of locations, characters, and quests. Join multiple factions vying for power or go it alone, the choices are all yours.

Fallout 4 is almost as beloved as Skyrim in the modder community. Check out the Fallout 4 Nexus to enhance your experience.

GreedFall

With diplomacy, deception and force, become part of a living, evolving world – influence its course and shape your story.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

The first Pillars of Eternity lets your Watcher in on one of the darkest secrets of Eora. PoE2: Deadfire takes place several years after the events of the first game, and you have a rogue God on your hands. With your character’s soul being woven into the deity, you have no choice but to lead your ship on a dangerous voyage of discovery across the vast unexplored archipelago region of the Deadfire.

Bend the world to your will, as you explore the depths of infinite possibilities, including detailed character customization, total freedom of exploration, and more meaningful choices at every turn – that includes romances, of course!

Divinity: Original Sin 2

True to its name, Divinity: Original Sin 2 allows players to embark on a divine journey and become a God! Gather your party and develop relationships with your companions. Blast your opponents in deep, tactical, turn-based combat. Use the environment as a weapon, use height to your advantage, and manipulate the elements themselves to seal your victory.

Also, there is an Undead companion you can get closer with. How does it work?.. That is for me to know and for you to find out!

Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Explore the Stolen Lands, a region that has been contested territory for centuries. Hundreds of kingdoms have risen and fallen in these lands, and now it is time for you to make your mark—by building your own kingdom! To do so, you’ll need to survive the harsh wilderness and the threat of rival nations… as well as threats within your own court.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker has been extensively enhanced with updates by the developers since its initial launch.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

SW: KotOR & SW: KotOR 2 tell the stories of Revan and the Jedi Exile respectively in an era roughly four thousand years the rise of the Galactic Empire. The choices you make influence the lives of those around you, and when faced with the ultimate decision, will you bring hope to the Jedi and the Republic or will you condemn the galaxy to centuries of rule under the Sith?

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Perhaps the most story-driven out of MMORPGs out there, Bioware’s Star Wars: The Old Republic features branching narrative, a choice of faction, race, gender and class for your PC, character alignments, class-specific stories, housing and, of course, romanceable companions.

Check out the game’s CGI compilation video. If it does not fill you with those Star Wars vibes, I do not know what possibly can.

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

The latest installment in Assassin’s Creed series, Odyssey, allows players to choose their protagonist between badass Kassandra and tough lad Alexios and take them on an epic adventure across the gorgeous sun-kissed planes of Ancient Greece with the chance of getting to know some sun-kissed Ancient Greeks a bit closer.

Political intrigues, sea-faring, mythological creatures and more will await you in Odyssey.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim reimagined and revolutionized the open-world fantasy epic, bringing to life a complete virtual world open for you to explore any way you chose. Beloved by fans (and the modding community) Skyrim is a game you can lose yourself into for countless hours.

By purchasing the amulet of Mara, Skyrim allows you to marry a variety of NPCs. The Dragonborn can also get a house (the game has a bunch of them) and adopt certain children, who in turn might ask you for a pet.

While the game is now 8 years old (wow, has it really been that long?), it can be modded extensively in terms of textures, graphics, and even gameplay.

Jade Empire

This award-winning action RPG from Bioware puts players into the role of an aspiring martial-arts master and follow the path of the open palm or the closed fist. Your choices and actions will determine the fate of the entire Jade Empire – and your companions/love interests. Will you prevent the destruction of this beautiful land, or will you crush it beneath your heel? Are you a warrior who uses his strength and fighting mastery to bring peace, or will you instead use your power to bring pain and ruin?

Baldur’s Gate series

Bioware’s classic, Baldur’s Gate series takes place in the fantasy world of Forgotten Realms. In 2012 the series was revitalized with Enhanced editions to work better with the current platforms and even on the iOS and Android devices.

The entirety of the series offers a dozen different romanceable characters. Eight for male protagonists and six for female ones, ten offer opposite-sex relationships and four offer same-sex relationships. Check out the Wiki page to learn everything there is about romances!

Upcoming Games That Will Have Romance Options

Cyberpunk 2077

Next project from creators of the Witcher series, CDProjekt RED, takes us to the future. If you had expected it to be a bright one, I have bad news for you… However, under the neon signs of Night City, there is an opportunity for romance.

After the reveal at E3 2018, the developers have shared some details of the upcoming game. Cyberpunk 2077 will feature full frontal nudity and you can take people back to your apartment for a one-night stand if you fancy it. There will also be long-lasting relationships if this is your cup of tea.

The Waylanders

Created by a team of ex-Bioware developers, The Waylanders is a classic group management RPG. Featuring innovative and tactical combat system, the game brings to life the legends of the once flourishing Celtic cultures. The Waylanders will provide players an engaging narrative featuring impactful character development, unique companion romance options, and a deeply technical combat system. Are you a Waylander?

Dragon Age: The Dread Wolf Rises

Presented during The Game Awards 2018, Dragon Age: The Dread Wolf Rises is currently in the works at BioWare. There are currently no details or even an estimated release date, but considering Bioware’s list of titles, the romances are more than likely.

As comes from the name, the events of the game will follow those of Dragon Age: Inquisition and will feature Solas, one of Inquisition’s companions. According to Kotaku, one of the early prototypes of the game had players assume the role of an agent in Tevinter Imperium. It is unknown if it stays true for the reboot.

Maybe, Maybe Not

I am not going to lie to you: we don’t know if there are going to be romances in the two following games. So don’t take my word for granted and see for yourself once TESVI and Starfield are closer to release and Bethesda releases more details!

The Elder Scrolls VI (possibly)

Officially announced during E3 2018, The Elder Scrolls VI is still a long way away. However, knowing that it is actually coming at some point is got to be worth something, right?

We don’t actually know of TESVI will feature romances, but taking a look back at TESV and Fallout 4? It is quite likely. Get your amulets of Mara prepared and ready!

Starfield (possibly)

Announced at E3 2018, Starfield is Bethesda’s first new original IP in over 25 years. We don’t know anything about the upcoming game besides the fact that it is going to be a “space epic RPG” and that it is coming sooner than TESVI.

Starfield has been in development for years and will have a lot of new systems as the company’s first space-based game. However, it also “has Bethesda’s DNA in it”. Does it mean romances? Possibly so.

  1. No Stardew Valley?

    • I was mostly looking for RPGs with the romance options, adding simulators like My Time at Portia, Stardew Valley and even The Sims was considered but then the list would blow up to truly monstrous proportions. It will be in part 2 if I ever get to it!
