FoxNext Destinations and Pure Imagination Studios is bringing a free-roaming VR experience set in the ALIEN franchise to The Outlet in Orange County, California.
As the player, you join a squad of Colonial Marines on an investigative mission, following a distress signal from a Weyland-Yutani mining facility. Before losing contact with the installation, the facility reported a strange infestation. Your job is to secure and quarantine any survivors as you identify the threat and neutralize it. During the mission, players will be able to move freely within the space, fighting everything from the fully matured Xenomorphs to the nightmare-inducing face-huggers.
In order to achieve this level of immersion, Pure Imagination Studios uses what they claim to be a “first-of-its-kind” VR technology with ALIEN: DESCENT that requires no backpack PC or wires. Each player is equipped with a weapon with and motion tracking sensors on their arms and legs along with some other surprises that Pure Imagination Studios promises will help further immerse the players in the experience.
“ALIEN: DESCENT’s story-first approach is at the forefront of the location-based VR experiences that we’re rolling out. Our goal at Pure Imagination Studios has always been to push the boundaries of what’s possible — VR attractions are the perfect medium to do just that,” said Joshua Wexler, co-founder of Pure Imagination Studios. “Partnering with the forward-thinking team at FoxNext made for a potent combination of storytelling minds and innovative thinking to set a new benchmark for destination entertainment,”
Booking for the experience is available now at AlienDescent.com with tickets priced at $22 USD. ALIEN: DESCENT will open on April 26th, a clever nod to the planet LV-426.
