Amazon Orders Up a God of War Live-Action Series

God of War Prime Series

Amazon’s Prime Video is working in cooperation with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions to bring a live-action God of War series to the world. While there is no information about when fans can expect to see the series, we do know a few things about its setting and the team behind the production.

The series will take place after Kratos has wreaked vengeance for his wife’s death in Greece. Having traveled to the Nordic domain of Midgard, he and his son will traverse the realm to its highest mountain to honor their late wife and mother.

The ever-busy Rafe Judkins, currently heading up the Prime Video Wheel of Time series, has signed on as the showrunner and executive producer. Others appearing on the executive production team include Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. The pair will share writing duties as well. Cory Barlog will also serve as an executive producer.

Amazon’s head of global television, Vernon Sanders, had this to say, “The God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling.”

Katherine Pope, head of Sony Pictures Television Studios added, “We are so proud and excited to be working with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautiful and heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series.”

Ragnarok has launched to universal praise on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The critically-acclaimed title follows a bereaved Kratos as he searches for vengeance and peace following his wife’s death.
