Backfirewall Gets A Release Update

Backfirewall in among the ram chips

Back Up Your files and fight for control when Backfirewall launches on 30 January 2023.

The machine uprising is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms on 30 January when Backfirewall loads for the first time. Publisher All in! Games has confirmed that things are about to get a bit hands on when players take the role of an OS update assistant in a battle to quell the upstart self-aware OS9 instance.

We fist glimpsed Backfirewall at Gamescom 2022, and this genuinely ingenious looking first person puzzler, if I can quite call it that, plunges players into a fictional account of your own mobile phone. Playing as an upgrade program you’ll take to the mundane tasks of purging and moving the latest OS into memory, but there’s a problem. A suddenly sentient OS9 doesn’t want to leave. What unfolds is a self-aware adventure through the reimagined inner workings of your small screen gaming machine, and a whole host of puzzles to solve.

Each area of the system is constructed with a knowing nod, tons of recognizable components, and tell-tale conversations with quirky characters. As you work through this hardware backdrop, you’ll use cheat codes, solve logic errors, move items from memory, and decide is OS9’s valiant and sassy fight for life should end in terminal deletion.

If you’ve had a chance to play the demo, you’ll know Backfirewall developer Narraven Games has built something small but special. For anybody who hasn’t loaded the pre-launch build, you can head over to steam or check out more on the official website now.

For those of you who I’ve not met yet, my name is Ed. After an early indoctrination into PC gaming, years adrift on the unwashed internet, running a successful guild, and testing video games, I turned my hand to writing about them. Now, you will find me squawking across a multitude of sites and even getting to play games now and then
