Konami has launched a new take on classic detective tales with the launch of Crimesight on Steam.

While Konami might be better known for its Metal Gear games or soccer sims, the Japanese publishing house pushed out a new AI thriller with surprisingly little fanfare last night. Crimesight is a near-future take on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes that melds in an AI narrative, puzzle-solving, and maybe even a little PvP. The very different title is available now on Steam for a slimmed-down £14.99 or local equivalent and aims to challenge the logic deduction skills of even the best minds.

This stylized whodunnit throws players into the year 2075. With a perilous future hanging above their heads, the citizens of London have unleashed an AI to help tackle potential crimes, but this digital detective is not the problem. While churning through cases, the Foresight AI discovers a pattern and another rogue AI that sits at the helm of a series of diabolical breaches of the law.

While the teaser for Crimesight looks obviously aimed at anime fans, this is more than a visual novel. The deductive gameplay and range of puzzles pits players against one another as one assumes the role of the “villain”, who carries out a murder, and another becomes the “target”, the villain’s future victim. The PvP puzzle concept caught our attention and if you’re looking for something a little different from the upcoming chill of Lego Brickmaster then this is definitely worth a look. Check out Crimesight over at the official Steam store page now.
