Dual Unvierse player stans in a marketpalce - Dual Universe Has A Date For Launch

Dual Universe is finally set to launch on 27 September 2022.

Lift off is coming for an MMORPG that’s been long in the making today. Dual Universe, a multi planetary sci-fi MMO that first landed in front of this reporter at a Gamescom long before Covid, is now set to lift off into full release. Novaquark, the developer who have been building for the last eight years, has confirmed that this build your own adventure will come to Steam and the game’s official website on 27 September 2022. While a sci-fi themed planet spanning adventure with self-driven goals might sound a lot like EvE or a little like Elite Dangerous, Dual Universe is worth taking a look at for a bunch of reasons.

While plenty of other MMOs provide end goals, sick loot, and pre-defined raid bosses, Dual Universe lets players build almost anything, through a mix of in game systems. Players starting out in a seemingly simple survival game can quickly turn a trade in a massive player driven economy and create everything from simple shelters to massive spaceships. Thanks to the in game physics engine and a little programming know how, we’ve even seen a player created ship with a copy of Breakout installed in the crew quarters.

The result of this immense freedom is predictably fluid. Across the game’s beta testing phases, players have organized, traded, built, and waged war on an interplanetary scale. All the while, Novaquark added new VFX, asteroid discovery and mining, space markets, automated mining, a new first-time user experience, visual and performance enhancements, and more.

“Since Dual Universe’s beta launched two years ago, our community of dedicated Novean explorers, plunderers, miners, and pioneers have created amazing stories in towering cities, underground bases, and orbital space stations,” says Nouredine Abboud, CEO of Novaquark. “We are incredibly thankful for everyone who has embarked on this journey with us so far and are thrilled to open this new chapter of the game’s incredible voyage so far.”

Dual Universe isn’t likely to be a free to play experience, however. This time sink was, at least partially, funded by a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, and players an expect a subscription fee, although we do not know how much yet. Anybody wanting to try out this huge sandbox can grab 2 weeks on a trail server for free, after 27 September. To log into this on Steam or find out more check out the official Steam Store page now.

For those of you who I’ve not met yet, my name is Ed. After an early indoctrination into PC gaming, years adrift on the unwashed internet, running a successful guild, and testing video games, I turned my hand to writing about them. Now, you will find me squawking across a multitude of sites and even getting to play games now and then
