Gerda A Flame In Winter Makes The March Onto Nintendo Switch and PC

Gerda A Flame In Winter, the gorgeous narrative title from Dontnod, arrives on PC and Nintendo Switch today.

Available right now for £17.99 or local dollar equivalent, Gerda Flame in Winter is a uniquely telling story that we would strongly encourage you to pick up and play. Developed by PortaPlay, it continues the established legacy of publisher Dontnod by bringing a deep and thought provoking personal tale to a deeply emotive subject, all wrapped up in something of an RPG lite experience. Set during the German occupation of Denmark in World War II, this tale places players in the shoes of Gerda. A nurse born of both backgrounds, the eponymous central character is faced with some stark realities as the war closes in and she realizes she cannot live her life in quite the same way anymore.

“We are honored to have helped PortaPlay bring this crucial story to life today. I’m very happy that Gerda: A Flame in Winter is the very first published game of ours that has been developed externally. This creation is very much aligned with our vision, and we feel that it has that special ‘DON’T NOD DNA’.“

From an idyllic, if uncomfortable life, Gerda must navigate social situations and problematic encounters as the impact of WWII comes home to her quaint town. The small village of Tinglev does not have any organized fighting force to defend itself or rescue Gerda’s husband when he is arrested by the Gestapo.

What unfolds is a delicate narrative experience, where players must solve puzzles, roll for luck, and convince other characters to help Gerda rescue her partner. With plenty of moral quandaries and problematic puzzles, Gerda charmed us when we got hands on earlier this year. If you’re looking for something with more meaning than the standard WWII shooter then take a look at Gerda A Flame In Winter over on the official Steam Store page or Nintendo eShop now, or check out our developer interview now.
