If Dark, Claustrophobic Horror is Your Jam, The Descent May Be the Perfect Game

Celeritas Games has announced the release of its “horror walking sim” The Descent is now available for PC via Steam. Players with a bent for claustrophobic horror games set in abandoned mines should be thrilled with the action in locations as dark as, well, an abandoned mine. Players are put in the shoes of a local investigator uncovering a “hometown mystery.”

Developers have released a brand new trailer to showcase just how dark an abandoned mine can be. Add in a few well-placed jump scares in the pitch black, and it’s the perfect setting for people who love that sort of thing.

Features include

  • Walking Simulator: Experience ‘The Descent,’ a first-person psychological horror walking sim, set in the late 19th century in the coal mining town of Rockwell Mine. Immerse yourself in the grueling atmosphere of a miners environment and their unsettling encounters deep within the treacherous mines. Assume the role of an investigator who returns to this hometown after journalism school to unveil its mysteries.
  • Explore room-to-room observing evolving events. As a player, you must navigate the perilous mine, document your investigation with a camera, solve the mysteries behind the disappearances, and overcome obstacles while evading the dangers lurking within.
  • Experience the challenges faced by miners. Rockwell Mine has been plagued by numerous accidents, disappearances, and unexplained deaths, leaving authorities baffled. Despite countless investigations, the truth remains elusive, leading to the closure of the mine.
  • Uncover the untold story of the mine.

This is a short game, lasting approximately two hours. Check out the Steam page for The Descent for more information.
