Maskonauts: Chat’Attack is out now and if you’ve ever been a keyboard warrior, then it’s time to flex those fingers.
While we know Twitch chat can be toxic, this new Early Access battler embraces the chaos and jumps into a literary battle, unlike anything we expected. Available on PC via Steam and on mobile, this adventure is like nothing we’ve ever seen before. The newly minted word game throws your ideas of a pleasant stream out the window and crushes the serenity of Wordle. Instead, this ingenious little adventure encourages players to shoot and loot the content of their favorite twitch channels.
Looking like a twisted version of a retro arcade shooter, the screen is filled with Twitch chat instead of attacks. Instead of alien invaders, the words of your own community come crashing down and influence the challenges that arise. The procedural nature of the content and the flow of conversation means you’ll need to survive waves of texts, Emoticodes and enemies. Along the way, specific characters and emojis bring up bonuses, while you’ll collect gems to unlock Maskoin upgrades.
Whether the chat decides to help you with lots of hearts or simply attack, is up to them. So, strap in for 10 waves of new enemies and boss battles every time. Honestly, I’m not sure if this widget style experience is the best or worst thing to give to Twitch chat but I can’t wait to see the consequences. Maskonauts: Chat’Attack is available now as an Early Access title. Language support includes English and French, although Latin, Cyrillic, Bengali, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Simplified Chinese, and Mandarin symbols will all spawn some kind of response.
