Minecraft Education, Mojang, and BBC Earth have announced a brand new partnership to bring Frozen Planet II to life in Minecraft. Players will be able to explore five all-new free worlds and learn about animals and landscapes along the way. The content mirrors that of BBC Studios’ Natural History Brand’s iconic series. Developers are committed to using the game to build a better world “with a focus on global citizenship and sustainability.”
In partnership with @BBCEarth, we’re releasing a #FrozenPlanet2 experience on Minecraft. 🎉

What’s very cool about Frozen Planet II is that it will offer players a chance to play from the perspective of an animal. This marks the first time in the game’s history that this feature is available. Gamers can play as a penguin, a bumblebee, or a polar bear and experience the frozen worlds as these animals. In addition, they can play a natural history film-making researcher who is on location documenting animal behavior.
The first world is currently available with subsequent worlds being released weekly. The new worlds are available for free globally in 29 languages for Minecraft: Education Edition. This edition also comes with lesson plans for teachers to use in the classroom. The new worlds are also available for Minecraft: Bedrock edition.
If you’ve ever started a new Minecraft game and spawned in the middle of an ice plains biome, then you’ll know a thing or two about trying to survive in a difficult environment. With no trees, thick ice, and continually freezing water, trying to build a thriving base in this biome is tricky even on Peaceful mode. Now imagine if you were one of the real-life creatures that called a freezing environment like this your home. What would that be like? How would you survive? What challenges might you face? In the astounding new Frozen Planet II DLC* from the teams at Minecraft: Education Edition and BBC Earth, you can now experience these frozen landscapes for yourself through the eyes of the creatures that live there – for free with Minecraft: Education Edition or on the Marketplace!
