The NHL 21 site has been updated with a developer blog regarding the game’s progress as it nears launch. Unfortunately, fans eagerly awaiting the latest game in the series will have to wait a bit longer as it has been delayed from its usual September release window to October. Developers cite the complexity of working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic as a contributing factor in the game’s delay.
The stay-at-home conditions have also affected the release of the game for next-gen consoles as well. “We made the decision to focus on adding innovation and new features rather than the resource-heavy task of porting the game to new console technology. You’ll still be able to play NHL 21 on the next-gen consoles through forward compatibility but we are fully focused on launching NHL 21 on the Xbox One and PS4 and look forward to the opportunities the next-gen systems will bring in the future.”
