Occupy White Walls, the massive online art experience launches today and is opening its doors on PC.
Art takes its own time, and after a long gestation period, Occupy White Walls is finally launching across PC today. Available now on Steam, the MMO turned massive artistic adventure will open up an entirely different sort of game. Co-developed by KULTURA Ex Machina and its community, this interactive build a gallery game leaves Early Access with 90,000 players and more than 102,000 digital art galleries to explore.
Players picking up OWW will find an immersive sandbox MMO where patrons can express their creativity with art and architecture, designing and exploring stunning fantastical art instances. Building their very own local gallery from the ground up, players will get to pick from a huge range of curated art. Works are listed from the likes of Claude Monet, Rembrandt, and Vincent van Gogh, as well as from up-and-coming digital artists such as Rosa Francesca and Jamie Stantonian, who are using experimental technologies to create interactive installations and surreal 3D renders. The point of this endeavour is to bring art into a newly accessible realm, the digital space. Kultura Ex Machina Founder and CEO Yarden Yaroshevski notes that this is, to:
“democratise the often inaccessible and sometimes intimidating world of art”, by offering “a non-judgemental environment and a truly level playing field for both artists and the ‘art curious’ to get into the ‘art world’.”
However, a set of Minecraft styled tools won’t quite achieve that. When players delve intot he art on offer, a cusom Daisy AI system brings the power of the algorithm to exploring in game art. This system allows individuals to browse and lease famous art works, then ask the Ai to find more that are likely to be jsut as appealing to them. This massivly lowers the entry barrier to building your own collection, especially when starting out in an intimidating space.
“Occupy White Walls was created with a vision to democratize the often inaccessible and sometimes intimidating world of art,” commented KULTURA Ex Machina Founder and CEO Yarden Yaroshevski. “With DAISY, we offer a non-judgemental environment and a truly level playing field for both artists and the ‘art curious’ to get into the ‘art world’.”
The result is a game that already includes almost 45,500,000 sqm of player created gallery space, 625-times that of Paris’ Louvre, and houses more than 31,800 artworks – over 40 times what the Tate Britain has on display, for example. The chilled build and play title even allows the population to explore each other’s creations, meaning that this Trove turned Tate game is something truly unique.
