Reality MagiQ and Kakao Games have announced that Dysterra will be free to play this weekend for PC players via Steam. The free-play event runs from Thursday, February 2nd through Monday, February 6th. Those who opt to purchase the game will be able to leverage a sweet 30% off deal. In addition, all progress made during the weekend event will be retained for those who buy the game.
Dysterra is a sci-fi survival game with “futuristic FPS gameplay.” Players can also participate in “looting, crafting, building, and team-play.” Inspired by games like Rust, developers offer gamers features, including item crafting, intuitive base-building, and strategic survival elements.
It eliminates tedious barriers players of the genre often complain about. Players start each game with a sidearm and rifle, reducing the time it takes to engage with enemy players and AI. In addition, characters have a high-tech machine arm that significantly speeds up crafting and gathering resources. This allows players to focus on survival instead of time-consuming tasks. According to the dev team, these design choices aim to keep the action focused and accessible to newcomers who some aspects of the survival genre might put off.
During the free-play weekend, fans will get a peek at some of the content coming in Season 2. This includes the Bunker, a free-for-all space where the goal is to be the last one standing.
In addition, the Hyena Den is a “new private instance dungeon where players won’t encounter other survivors.” Inside Hyena Den, players can gather resources to improve their gear without threats from other players. There are, however, enemy NPCs to keep an eye out for.
