Raise Hell In Outer Space With Astronaut: The Best

Studio Universal Happymaker has just announced that the occult management adventure Astronaut: The Best will launch on 15 August.

Prepare the ritual and remember airlocks can double up as a great sacrificial space. An unexpected amalgamation of occult management and space faring roguelike is about to voyage onto PC and Steam Deck during August. The unusual mix of as occult simulator and Space Crew with a narrative twist is set to put budding space operative in charge of a very different space program very soon. Taking place in a fictional universe, it challenges players to space academy using lies, witchcraft, and hard work. Unfortunately for you, it will take a special kind of magic for recruits to make it beyond the catwalk.

The pool of potential space jockeys is underwhelmingly slim, and they’re all screw ups. It’s up to you to guide these buffoons through a web of scandals, challenges, and space-shatteringly meaningful choices. Even part time pirates will likely have some qualities worth leaning into. Procedural generation means no two teams of recruits will be the same, all with their own qualities. Yes, they have some. Missions will also vary, meaning you’ll need to have a spell ready for any encounter. Whether that’s dropping a charm into the cockpit or performing a supernatural ritual, just do whatever it takes to keep the occult happy and the space program on the rails.

I’m not even sure what to think about an out of this idea, but the trailer makes it look like a hoot. I suspect if you liked the quirks of Sucker for Love or the devilishness of Cultist Simulator then this space race is worth watching. It already popped up across LudoNarraCon, Indie Megabooth, PAX West, Seattle Indies Expo, EGX, and Dreamhack Anaheim 2020 selection lists. You can check out more about Astronaut: The Best or Wishlist it over on the Steam Store now.
