It’s all sci-fi with a twist today as we throw some furballs into the void in Space Cats Tactics.
Available now via Steam, the cats are going into outer space. Costing a smidge less than a SpaceX flight at $14.99/€14.79. or local equivalent, this brand-new adventure mixes grid- and turn-based tactical ship combat, inside-ship crew management, and cats. Playing as space cat Captain Mitzi, you’ll fit the fur of a mercenary hired to smuggle a ship, the Curiosity, to a remote corner of the galaxy. Fortunately for us, that’s not where this tale ends.
Along the way, players will run up against a range of problems and foes. Deadly combat ships, huge motherships, and other enemy vessels will try to shoot you out into space. As if that’s not enough, the chartered ship will need to avoid or destroy natural hazards like asteroids or clouds of cosmic gas. Encounters that crop up between destinations are played out in a turn-based tactical RPG layout. This combines grid- and turn-based tactical combat in a stellar scenario. While the space rocks get knocked out of your starship bridge, you’ll need to manage your crew, man repairs, and fend off other problems behind the bulkhead. It’s a bit of FTL or Space Crew mixed with age old space RPGs.
That means that there should be plenty of room for progression. Assuming you survive, you’ll be able to grab more powerful weapons between patching holes.
It’s not all a scrappy existence, however. Stepping beyond the litter box and exploring the galaxy can be hugely rewards. If you’re a bit more amenable to cute beans than the occult, then check out the Space Cats Tactics program over on Steam today.
