Reverse: 1999 – Update 1.4 Is The Best Thing to Happen to the Game Yet

Reverse: 1999 is the turn-based tactical time-traveling RPG from developer Bluepoch. The global version of the game arrived in October 2023 and since then enjoyed a steady cadence of updates. The latest major update, Version 1.4: The Prisoner In The Cave, just arrived, bringing along a wealth of new content to the game.

Regardless of whether you prefer the narrative side of the game, want more time with the characters, or take pleasure in challenging battles, this update has something for you to enjoy. Version 1.4 also gives players a free 5-star character and a great number of rolls that can be used on one of the two new 6-star characters: Star-type DPS 37 and Intelligence-type buffer 6.

A mysterious phenomenon known as the “Storm” hit the world on the last day of 1999, causing anything it touched to be reversed and the time to stop progressing. In Reverse: 1999, players control Vertin the Timekeeper, an Arcanist from the St. Palvov organization that seeks to protect humanity. The only person immune to the effects of the “Storm”, Vertin travels through different eras and recruits a cast of diverse Arcanists to aid her in understanding this phenomenon.

So how is it that events of Update 1.4 seemingly take place in 2007, unaffected by the “Storm”? Vertin & co are as flabbergasted as you are when 37 drops this information on them shortly after the crash. Hope you’re good at arithmetic, because this new island and its inhabitants are all about numbers, theories and mathematical models!

Reverse: 1999 Update 1.4 is available now and will be running through April 18th. With two new Arcanists, three new game modes and a bunch of free stuff, there had been no better time to start this time-traveling journey. Check out the official site to start playing or to find out more.

As always, the update is split into two phases. The first phase is already available, and sees Vertin and her Arcanist companions Sonetto, Regulus and Liliya make their way (in their usual fashion) to an undiscovered island full of mystery. It is there that they will encounter the new playable Arcanist, absent-minded mathematical genius 37.

In addition to the expansion of the main story that lets you know more about Vertin herself, Foundation gets more lore through Special Chapter: The Star. 37 also received her personal character story “As the Sand Remembered”. Taking part in this content will let you know more about what kind of person she really is, explore her personality and background while earning some quick and easy rewards. Check out her trailers below to learn more about 37 and her skills.

“37 has been obsessed with mathematics ever since she was a little girl. She perceives the world solely in the form of numbers, which means she isn’t quite the best at holding conversation. However, 37’s affection for abstract concepts and ability to share clear insights make her an indispensable scholar among peers.”

The second phase will see the addition of a new character: a mysterious taciturn Intelligence-type buffer/debuffer 6. He is perfect, but he is far from satisfied… and you will get to know more about him through his personal Character Story “Trudge in the Long Night”.

However, it is not only the latest characters that get the spotlight. Version 1.4 is introducing a new system called the Anecdotes, a resurrection of stories long lost to time, available on March 11th. This new free game mode gives fan-favorite characters new stories, especially those who are currently lacking like Charlie and Oliver Fog. If your fave is not in, don’t despair just yet: the system will be updated with new characters going onward. Sit on tight and let the developers know who you think should get some attention through the Anecdotes mode.

The game will also challenge your 3D thinking with the puzzle exploration gameplay mode “The Three Doors” that allows players to win some Clear Drops. This new addition is unlike anything available in the game so far. In addition to the materials, hawk-eyed players that explore these new maps can find special items that will shed light on some stories. For example, a letter from the Mesmer Family. This mode will be updated with new content as well, albeit not as regularly.

Those just waiting for a chance to flex their team-building prowess will get a chance to do just that once the new boss rush gameplay challenge mode “Mane’s Bulletin” launches on March 7th. See how long you can withstand the battle against one big bad after another, and another one yet! The higher your score, the bigger the reward. This is yet another evergreen game mode that will receive updates in future Versions.

Those are not the only new additions coming with this quite generous update. Don’t miss out on the free stuff!

Version 1.4 will see two sign-in events “Treasure in the Suitcase” and “Treasure on the Beach”, that will net players a total of 20 Unilogs! Additionally, the “Carnival Invitation” event will give you a chance to select a free 5-star character of their choice from the general summoning pool.

Reverse: 1999 also gives players a new limited portrait through the “Roaming in Geometry” event.

Last but certainly far from the least on this list of free stuff is the limited-time summon event ”Abundance of the Water – The First Milestone” that lets players claim up to seven free daily single summons of 6-star characters like An-an Lee, A Knight, Melania, and Voyager.

Other Reverse: 1999 – Version 1.4 events & additions include:

  • New Tasks “The Restless Floating Points” & “Inspiration from the Proofs”, available until April 15.
  • Achievement system – complete dailies and events to collect Badges of Honor.
  • Set Sail Again – the rocking ship sets sail once more. Help with the ship fixing, find more stories and claim materials while at it.
  • Sealed Records – dusting off forgotten past. New activity that gives you daily tasks and resources, while also providing players with some new stories about the Foundation.
  • New UTTU Flash Gathering, “Wandering on the Shore” – Claim La Source’s free garment.
  • The new garment series “Between Lines and Numbers” introduces new looks and skill effects for arcanists Lilya, Diggers, Sweetheart, and La Source.
  • Version 1.1’s garments return for a limited time.
  • The new Wilderness Pack “Thoughts of the Sand” is available now.
  • Wilderness gameplay now includes four plan-saving slots, making it easier for players to save multiple sets of plans. Additionally, the Wilderness Island capacity has increased from 120 to 150.

“Between lines and numbers theories will emerge on the aesthetics of the golden curves and the swordsman’s art of Destreza. Welcome to the hall of mathematics. The beauty of everything lies within its outlines.“
