Stick an RTX 3070 in your Raspberry Pi
Shadow, the cloud gaming PC company, just dropped a ton of news including confirmation that you’ll now be able to tackle the highest ray-traced 4K games on a $35 PC. Forget the incredible Xbox Series S deals this Black Friday, if you’ve got a spare Raspberry Pi then Shadow PC will now make this tiny integrated circuit a gaming powerhouse. Available to set right now, this combination of high-end hardware and desktop trickery won’t require gamers to try balancing a chunky GOU on top of their teeny tiny Pi enclosure. Instead, Shadow has released an officially supported setup for the Raspberry Pi4.
For those not into homebrew desktops, the Raspberry Pi is a small and inexpensive small single-board computer. This slimline system provides all the basic components of a personal computer, without any of the fancy RGB or desktop grunt. This modern-day Amstrad or C64 comes with at least 2 USB 3.0 and 2 x USB 2.0 ports, leaving plenty of room on this pocket-sized computer to connect gamepads, keyboards, headsets, and any of our recently reviewed mice. The Micro HDMI ports should mean plenty of connectivity to multi-monitor setups or front-room gaming, while the running requirement of jsut about 5V, means the electricity bill won’t be a issue either. To get started you’ll need:
- The official .deb file
- A Raspberry Pi4 (Any RAM Model)
- Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit)
This news makes the Pi4 the spiritual successor to Shadow’s discontinued desktop boxes and a guide has already appeared on official channels. While this still requires a Shadow PC subscription and won’t actually land a GPU in your festive stocking, it’s a fantastic way to hook up an impressive cloud gaming experience if you don’t have the plethora of options that we used during our Shadow hands-on.
