Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated For A New Generation

Remastered returns are all the rage right now and THQ is getting ready to rehydrate an old adventure that makes the recent Ghostbusters announcement look positively mundane. Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom is coming back to consoles and PC in 2020.

The little yellow square’s return to duty has just been announced with the following statement from THQ PR.

Blblblblblblblblblb!!!

It brings back the original 2003 edition of this adventure title. Originally strewn across PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Gamecube, the new interpretation is coming to PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. While a few different versions of the game did hit other platforms, the remaster of Battle for Bikini Bottom will redeploy the 3D platforming adventure that found Spongebob and friends defending their home from an army of robots, controlled by the evil Plankton.

This resurgence for the game wouldn’t have been thinkable back in 2003. The game managed only middling critical responses on release but by now it has something of a cult following. Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated will return thanks to the help of developer Purple Lamp Studios. Apart from the obvious visual enhancements that we can expect, THQ’s trailer, above, seems to confirm that we will also get a multiplayer mode for Spongebob’s return. While we do not have much more information on our second bite of the Crabby Patty, we do know that this title will not be coming to E3.
