The Oregon Trail Rolls Onto PC and Switch

The Oregon Trail Launch

Gameloft and HarperCollins Productions have announced that The Oregon Trail is now available for both PC and Switch. Aspiring wagoneers can get hold of the iconic grade school game for $29.99. The PC and Switch versions of the game join the version that has been live on Apple Arcade for some time.

To celebrate the launch of the beloved game, developers released a brand new trailer.

The game puts players into the boots of a wagon boss and all the trials and tribulations of the arduous westward journey. The goal is to have all — or at least some — of the pioneers survive the journey to Oregon. Players will need to stock their wagons, choose a hardy traveling party, and make sure as many as possible arrive in Oregon. Along the way, players will need to make tough choices in dangerous and unexpected situations. Lastly, players will learn the real history behind the trail, including the Native American experience, which is a first in the franchise.

The PC and Switch versions include all of the five previously-released content updates from the earlier Apple Arcade version. This includes new accessibility options, events, and visual filters that allow players to see the game in a whole new way. PC players can purchase the game on Steam or the Microsoft Store. Switch players can head to the Nintendo eShop to purchase a copy.

“We’re incredibly excited for even more players to experience The Oregon Trail,” said David MacMinn, Game Manager. “We’re pleased to see our game expand to multiple new platforms, and we hope PC and Nintendo players will enjoy their time on the trail as much as we did making it.”

“The gameplay in our new version of The Oregon Trail has proven to be as exciting and sticky as it was in the ‘90s,” said Caroline Fraser, Head of HarperCollins Productions. “The stunning graphics will grab players as they journey west and confront new dangers, meet a wide cast of historical figures, and overcome challenging obstacles on their way to Oregon.”
