Final Fantasy fans can now pre order their interest in Chocobo GP, the Final Fantasy sports title that I don’t think anybody was ever asking for. While FFXIX and other RPGs in the series have dabbled in some traditional Chocobo racing, Square Enix has opened pre-orders for Chocobo GP,a kart racer based in the Chocobo universe. Coming to Nintendo Switch, home of Mario kart, and due to get off the line on 10 March 2022, Chocobo GP might look a little different from your traditional Final Fantasy game, featuring an arcade racing experience set across a variety of tracks and challenges, all wrapped up in a cute cartoon aesthetic.
Players familiar with this franchise will recognize a bunch of faces, including fan-favorites Vivi and Steiner from Final Fantasy IX. Each racer comes with its own unique abilities and playstyle to ensure that there are lots of ways to play, but no blue shells. There are also plenty of thrilling courses from well-known Chocobo and Final Fantasy series set across a range of game modes.
Square has also announced the first season for this racer, during which players can join in on the game’s 64-player bracket-style tournament, Chocobo GP Mode. Lasting roughly two months, each Season will present special rewards which players can earn by raising their season score and season level through participation in Chocobo GP Mode.
