Fallout 76 received a large content update via Patch 22, kicking off Season 2, adding a brand-new system of daily repeatable missions, Legendary Perks and rebalanced combat across the game and more!
The developers from Bethesda have shared a new blog post to allow players to learn about everything coming in Patch 22.
The biggest update coming in Patch 22 is the One Wasteland system that adds a brand-new level of freedom to how you explore Appalachia. With this new system, you can traverse the wasteland however you want, whenever you want and with whomever you want, even if you’re a newcomer to the game.
“One Wasteland is our name for re-balancing the game to make is so that low level players have a less difficult experience at the beginning of their Fallout 76 adventure, and so that higher level players continue to be challenged,” explains Project Lead Jeff Gardiner. “New players will now be able to explore the wasteland of West Virginia without the difficulty spikes that they would previously encounter. For Veterans, they’ll be able to go back to several previous areas of the game and find new challenges. And both types of player will be able to group together to build, quest, and tackle events, as monsters are leveled in real-time to compensate for any level differences. A low-level player will be fighting a low-level monster, while a high-level player a high-level monster.”
Patch 22 also brings about the start of the game’s Season 2. It features a new S.C.O.R.E.board and awesome new rewards. In Season 2, you’ll Join the true American champion, Armor Ace, and his patriotic Power Patrol on their march to freedom across the globe to defeat the Subjugator!
- A new Greenhouse wall and ceiling set
- A Subjugator Outfit
- A new unique Power Patrol set of Power Armor
- Cosmetic Rewards from both the Power Patrol and the Red Vipers
- Some new fun in-game items including Keycards to help you nuke the wasteland and Vintage Nukashine
Legendary Perks is another new feature arriving in Patch 22. Starting at level 50, you can unlock Legendary Perk slots in your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. menu. Each Legendary Perk has four ranks, which you can reach by scrapping unwanted Perk cards. You can unlock an unlimited amount of Legendary Perks, but each slot will take exponentially longer to unlock after the first.
Last but not least is a new system called Daily Ops, aimed to add more replayability to dungeons.
“Appalachia has a wide variety of interesting dungeon locations, many of which have little reason for return visits after initial exploration,” explains Lead Level Designer Steve Massey. “Daily Ops is a repeatable gameplay system that allows players to hop into one of these dungeons and fight challenging waves of randomized enemies while completing a series of objectives. This combat feels unlike anything else in the game – not just because of the intensity, but also the Enemy Mutation system, which makes for more challenging encounters that will push player builds and abilities to the limit. It’s a perfect compliment to our One Wasteland feature because you can fight in any dungeon in the world and have an exciting and balanced experience.”
