Free Guy just dropped an explosive trailer for this upcoming video game movie that just happens to star Ryan Reynolds, the man behind the red and black mask.
Due out on 3 July 2020 Free guy is a new action comedy from that man that is Deadpool and follows the fate of a bank teller who inadvertently uncovers the truth of his existence. As a bit part NPC in an open world video game, he resolves to break out of the sandbox before the game that he is part of is closed down, and adventure ensues. The TIME trailer dropped this weekend without so much as an E3 announcement and debuted at CCXP, where Reynolds introduced the trailer in person.
The trailer depicts Free City, the protagonist’s home spawn as a mix between Grand Theft Auto, Fortnite, and Payday. The central character is repeatedly assaulted and robed by outlandish player characters and watches while Reynolds’ character takes charge of his life with a pair of player glasses that reveal the true design behind Free City. As a credited producer, Reynolds has already stated that this is his favorite movie to date, even above Deadpool.
“Free Guy is my favorite movie I’ve ever made, and that means a lot to me because I made Deadpool. “
Free Guy, of course, follows a number of mixed video game movies from the dreadful Pixels to Detective Pikachu, which also starred Reynolds as the voice of the titular Pikachu. While Reynolds’ voice job was less disturbing than the in game voice over for this detective, we’ve yet to see how this new take on video games fares. Will Free Guy conquer the cinemascape or will it wipe? You can check out the trailer above and let us know if you’re pre ordering this title, available on projection platforms everywhere next year.
