Ghostbusters is back, but this time with an online asymmetrical multiplayer experience that is set to pit ghouls against paranormal investigators across on 18 October 2022.
That’s right, the Ghostbuster are back, kind of. IllFonic Inc has started pre orders for a brand new asymmetrical multiplayer title Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. Bringing back ghost paranormal extermination and containment services isn’t an easy job, as we’ve seen on the silver screen, but the team behind this new incarnation of the much-loved franchise are approaching this game with a very different mindset.
“The reaction from fans of Ghostbusters has blown us away,” said Charles Brungardt, CEO, IllFonic. “Putting a date on and opening up preorders for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed feels like an out of body experience, and we cannot wait for everyone to feel the same sensation on Tuesday October 18th.”
In short, this is Ghostbusters gone Evolve, or maybe Dead by Daylight. Taking the now well established 3v1 gameplay of the newly invigorated 2K title, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed challenges players to pick up a PLKE meter and start hunting, unleashing short pulses to uncover ghost movement with the device, and utilizing Particle Throwers to capture the Ghost, deploy a trap, and wrangle them into it before they escape!
While a team of three ghost hunters can explore an ever nook across a range of maps, one player in each encounter can put the frighteners up civilians on site, possess objects to raise the overall Global Haunt percentage or just cause mass hysteria. Each ghoul can use slime to temporarily stun Ghostbusters, lay and move rifts to outmaneuver the other side, and deploy minions to make a quick exit.
All of this chaos will play out against some appropriately spooky backdrops, including a museum and an abandoned prison. Outside of matches, players will also be able to explore the iconic Firehouse. This lobby ans base is full of new and recognizable characters alike. Here, you’ll be able to your Ghostbuster’s equipment at the workbench and test out the changes with some target practice in the neighboring alley. Visit Ray’s Occult Books to enter the spectral realm and customize the Ghost’s loadout, skin, and various otherworldly options.
