Why Stay-at-Home Orders Have Been Great for Gaming

The video gaming industry has been one of the many to benefit from a gigantic increase in overall operations, with gaming sales in the United States reaching an apogee. While there are many forms of online entertainment, it’s easy to see why some tend to be great. For those of you who enjoy more traditional games with a saucy twist, such as strip blackjack, the news may not exactly make an impression, but for the rest of us video game fans, a jump of 52% year-over-year in May revealed some interesting numbers.

For starters, this has been the highest number on record since 2008 with the video game industry pushing close to $977 million. That figure included game accessories, which should be factored, but still, the numbers are pretty impressive and definitely a reason to be very happy if you are a video games fan.

Do You Have a Sweet Tooth for Video Games?

Sure, these numbers are a little shier than April, when overall game sales just went up 73% year-over-year wowing even the biggest skeptics. It’s not that just people played video games more, though. As it turns out, studies have revealed that people have consumed less sugar during the lockdown, meaning that video gaming and questionable eating habits don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand.

If anything, with so many great games to play and finally having the time to do so, saving up mostly from the tiring commutes, it’s great to see demand skyrocket as much. Many games have benefited from the stay-at-home orders. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for Switch has been one of those.

And, as you can expect, the release has been a fairly successful one. But it’s not just new releases that have received a power-up in the video gaming “box office.” Thanks to the quality of many games so far, old gems, such as The Witcher have resurfaced.

Top Sellers and Notable Mentions

More people than ever have opted for great titles, such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019, the top seller in May. The lack of sports has prompted many people to try NBA 2K20, as the fourth most-selling game in May.

Grand Theft Auto V has given everyone an opportunity to join an alter world and even visit the Diamond Casino. Diamond Casino is the most successful simulator of gambling experience in a video game, where you can play blackjack, poker, roulette, and many other interesting games.

Red Dead Redemption II and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey have been added to the list of top-sellers for May and for Star Wars fans, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has proven one of the best experiences.

Escapism is a very common human trait and one that deserves to be indulged in on occasion. After Mortal Kombat 11, we have another great fighting title, Super Smash Bros Ultimate. As to FIFA 20, which is a sports simulator, the game came in 20, but mostly because soccer isn’t necessarily the most popular game you can play in the United States.

A Huge Spike in Video Gaming in April and May

Another noteworthy increase in overall gaming-related activities has been video streaming, which has managed to amass the staggering 50% increase in viewership. According to The Washington Post, Twitch users have watched 1.49 billion hours on the Amazon-owned giant in April alone.

But others have also benefited. For example, Steam posted its largest figure again in April with 20 million concurrent online users. Video gaming has done well, providing an opportunity to hire even more people and boost revenue.

Other online gaming segments, such as blackjack and poker have also seen a dramatic increase in activity. Some 50% increase in traffic was reported on the most popular poker networks in the United States, and fans of blackjack have been joining online casinos to enjoy their favorite game.
