Magic The Gathering Supports Leyton Orient FC

Magic: The Gathering players better et ready for a very different type of competition as Wizards of The Coast announce a new partnership with an English soccer club.

Football fans best be ready for some rather different chats from the sidelines as Wizards of the Coast announce a sponsorship deal with Leyton Orient FC. The English soccer team who play in the National Football League Two division are now officially intertwined with the tabletop and digital card game, with Magic making its debut as the Official Gaming and Back of Training Wear Sponsor. Normally we only get into news about online gaming, but this rather leftfield announcement that the Magic logo will be emblazoned across Leyton Orient’s training wear certainly stirred up a few questions.

We’re not entirely sure this is going to impact Subbuteo fans, although I’m personally hoping it allows the tabletop soccer sim to add in a few interrupts to the pitch.

Brian Trunk, Sr. Director and Head of EMEA & LATAM, Wizards of the Coast, added, “We are so excited for Magic: The Gathering to be venturing into the realm of football this season. Leyton Orient is an ambitious and exciting club and a fantastic match for our drive to always push the boundaries to deliver the highest quality entertainment to our fans. We very much see this partnership as a winning combination!”

While it’s interesting to see Magic: The Gathering trying to reach out beyond its traditional indoor roots, this shouldn’t mean a shift in strategy for the digital side of the magic competitions, with the Magic: Legends beta having kicked off in March. Players who aren’t too busy with a pie and Bovril can sign up for the beta of the fantasy ard game over at the Magic: Legends website now or head over to the Leyton Orient site to see if they can do more than draw.
