It’s probably no surprise to Nintendo fans everywhere that Mario is has dominated UK sales this week as Mario Maker 2 takes the top spot in the UK video game charts.
In its first week, Mario Maker 2 has unquestionably been the dominant force in the UK sales charts. While last week found a whole torrent of nitro-fuelled games and racing puns crashing all over this feature, this week it’s all about plumbing. So, before we start talking about my old pipes, let’s just move right along.
Goomba Shells and E3
For anybody who has been hiding under a goomba shell, Mario Maker 2 is the sequel to Mario Maker. This Nintendo exclusive gives players the opportunity to construct their own Super Mario World. Think Little Big Planet with all the trappings of the mushroom Kingdon. The game has had some major press coverage of late and even had a competitive showcase at E3.
Despite the dominance of Mario and his cohorts, the high octane theme still continues with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fuelled only dropping to 2nd spot. F1 2019, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Grand Theft Auto V all make an appearance too.
- SUPER MARIO MAKER 2
- CRASH TEAM RACING NITRO-FUELED

- BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT
- SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE
Outside of the plumbers and mechanics, Sega’s Judgement makes a new entry while Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night seems to shake off the Switch woes and climbs to number 9. Super Smash Bros Ultimate rounds off the top ten for this week.
This week might all be about Mario, but there’s an interesting shake-up at the top now, and while Grand Theft Auto V seems destined to never falter, it’s nice to see some games that aren’t motor and sports making up the top ten. You can keep an eye on the full chart listing at GfK.
