Hi-Rez Studios has announced that SMITE has been updated to bring a new god into the MOBA’s pantheon. Starting this week, players can play as the Hawaiian god Maui who brings along an array of interesting new abilities. In addition to the arrival of Maui, players will also find several new skins for other gods and information about skill updates and balance passes. Later this month, players will also receive a new Prime Gaming Drop and a mysterious bonus update is planned for November 1st. The team has plans to reveal more about the bonus update later in October.
Maui is a hard-hitting, yet cagey, new addition to the pantheon. His arrival should shake up the meta with his abilities.
- Manaiakalani is Maui’s passive ability. When an enemy is hard crowd controlled near him, they are “marked” for the duration. If Maui attacks a marked enemy with his basic attack, his next basic attack is enhanced. Players using Maui’s enhanced basic attack will find enemies pulled to them.
- Master Fisherman allows Maui to charge up his hook. The longer he charges it, the further he can throw it. It does projectile damage and stops when it hits a god. Maui then can reel in his enemy and cripple them. He can cancel the ability at any time.
- Mystical Ulua allows Maui to help teammates. He throws magical water that explodes when it lands. This gives allied gods Protections and Movement Speed boosts for five seconds. Maui’s ability also creates a pillar of water. If an allied god stands in it, they are surrounded by a bubble that floats them to Maui. He then provides them Protections and Movement Speed bonuses for five seconds.
- Solar Swing allows Maui to leap and latch his hook onto a ray of sunlight. As he swings from it, he can then leap from the rope and slam his hook into the ground. This damages and stuns enemies.
- Landfall is Maui’s ultimate ability. Maui selects and area, becomes CC immune, and leaps into the air. He throws his hook at the target and yanks up an island. This knocks all enemies into the air and pulls them in front of Maui. Maui can reactivate this ability to destroy the island early.
