Nintendo is always full of surprises and today is no exception with its announcement of Pac-Man 99. The game is, oddly enough, a battle royale and it is launching on Nintendo Switch later today as part of the Switch Online subscription.

According to what we know so far, PM-99 will toss a hundred players into a lobby, though each player will see their own screen. To stay alive and to eliminate opponents, players will need to eat ghosts, eat power pellets, and send Jammer Pac-Man off to disrupt enemies. Jammer Pac-Man is created when a player turns ghosts blue and consumes them. Once eaten, a Jammer Pac-Man is created that can be sent off to an enemy’s game. The more opponents disrupted, the more likely a player is to win the match.
Gain the upper hand by switching between eight different preset strategies: speed up, send extra Jammers, and more. Switching at just the right moment could give you an edge over your rivals!
Players will also be able to purchase custom-themed DLC based on some of Nintendo’s other classics including Xevious, GALAGA, Dig Dug, and others. These skins will change the way the game looks.
From what we understand, the game is the latest in a series of Nintendo classic-type games that are being given the battle royale treatment. These other games include Tetris 99 and Super Mario Bros. 35.
