Pokemon Go Set to Celebrate the New Year in Style

The Pokemon Go blog has been updated with a trio of articles that reveal details for the game’s new year celebration as well as providing a peek ahead into January 2021.

From Thursday, December 31st through Monday, January 4th, PG players will be able to find Pokemon wearing festive costumes. Players should be on the look out for Slowpoke, Pichu, Pikachu, and Evolve Pikachu. Wynaut will be hatching from 2km Eggs with a chance at a Shiny Wynaut. Raticate, Wobbuffet, and Wurmple will be wearing party hats in one-star raids alongside Klink and Espurr. Eevee will be wearing a party hat as a Field Research reward encounter. Players will also be able to score the Glasses and the New Year’s Party Hat avatar items from the in-app shop starting December 30th. Lastly, boxes will have special items in them throughout the event.

There are big plans afoot for January as well. These include:

  • Encounter Chansey in Research Breakthroughs from January 1 to February 1
  • Legendary and Mythical Pokemon will appear in 5-star raids throughout January including Ho-Oh (Jan 1-5), Genesect (Jan 5-12), Heatran (Jan 12-19), Kyogre and Groudon (Jan 19-26), and a surprise Pokemon from Jan 26-Feb 1
  • In Mega-Raids look for Charizard Y, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Abomasnow. Other Mega-Evolved Pokemon will be in Mega Raids starting January 19
  • Pokemon Spotlight hours have been detailed
  • Regional Pokemon will appear throughout January
  • Collection Challenges will be introduced
