Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is coming and it looks like Nintendo has leaked the release date.
The update of the well loved animated superstar’s adventure looks to have surfaced during an infographic covering the 2020 line-up from Nintendo. Based on the seemingly inadvertent slip up by Nintendo, The newest Spongebob installment will hit the Nintendo Switch on 22 May 2020. This appears to be set to coincide with the release of the latest Spongebob movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, and we can expect it to land on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One on the same day.
Second Time Round
Originally released on PS2, Xbox, and GameCube in 2003, the first evolution of this Spongebob title was a platforming homage to the squishy yellow sponge who lives in a pineapple. Despite a bunch of negative critical feedback, it became a cult classic and we got a glimpse of the reworked title during Gamescom 2019 and a fun looking trailer. The new incarnation has the same silly charm and audio cues that you’d expect from the game, with plenty of attention to detail and real desire to recapture the quirky original’s cult status. This is far from Spongebob’s only outing, we tried to count the games with the yellow superstar’s face on it and got lost somewhere between the Game Boy Advanced SpongeBob SquarePants: Legend of the Lost Spatula and the Playstation Vita releasee of Spongebob Heropants.
While it is unusual to see this announcement from Nintendo and not THQ, the infographic just highlights the continued strength of the Nintendo Switch platform with titles such as The Outer Worlds, Pokemon, Doom Eternal, and more plastered down the page.
