Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster has a release date and you can dodge blaster fire on 28 February 2024.

You might have defeated the Empire once, but it always ends up coming back. LucasArts’ sci-fi tinged take on the 1990s first person shooter genre is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. Nightdive Studios, the name behind a raft of classic upgrades, has confirmed that players will be able to face off against the first incarnation of Dark Troopers when this anticipated shooter re-releases on 28 February 2024.

The new version of this Star Wars FPS will put new and returning players back into the role of Kyle Katarn. Unlike the Jedi, this protagonist doesn’t wield a mythical sord. Instead, the citizen, turned Imperial subject, turned traitorous bounty hunter, turned Rebel spy wields a range of energy weapons and explosive options to get past a range of bucket heads that stand in his way. Across a series of shoot and puzzle platforms, you’ll complete a range of missions, all interlaced with cutscenes that have undergone some modern upgrades. Maybe you’ll even survive an encounter with the formidable Dark Troopers.

While the classic shooter might be aged, it has had some improvement. Rather than reshoot scenes and completely rebuild levels, Nightdive has upgraded the base game with enhanced lighting, improved textures, gamepad support, 4K resolution, and up to 120 frames per second. The Switch version won’t ever be able to do that, but a high-end GPU or cloud gaming system should be able to render the Dark Troopers at this high refresh rate. Check out more about the upcoming missions over on the Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster Steam Store page now.
