Starship Troopers: Extermination Begins Early Access Bug Hunt in May

Starship Troopers: Extermination a bug lies dead on the road as trooper reloads

Starship Troopers: Extermination will drop into early access on 17 May 2023.

Offworld Industries called in the Mobile Infantry last night with the news that Starship Troopers: Extermination will go to war on 17 May. The upcoming first-person spin on big game bug hunting will enter early access on this date. The release gives players an opportunity to get in ahead of the crowd and help guide the development towards a full head on assault. Players putting their money up front can do so for $24.99 USD or local equivalent, with this price set to increase as the game moves towards a version 1.0 launch.

Early Access means that this run and gun operation won’t include everything slated for launch, btu there still seems to be a reasonable arsenal available. The early access version will kick off with 16 players, squad-based gameplay. Dropped onto a hostile alien world, troopers must construct bases, acquire resources, protect their respawn zone before deadly waves of insectoid grunts start swarming in. There will still be plenty of ways to blow away this alien threat, with Assault, Support, and Defense classes initially available to choose from. A robust progression system is touted with new weapons, equipment, and perks promised, while 5 unique bug types will threaten the human race as soon as this advance party starts shooting. It’s all a little bit Fortnite with acid spewing alien infestations and we’re here for it.

Announced last year, Starship Troopers: Extermination is certainly a promising take on the visceral and ultimately dark Paul Verhoeven film from 1997. This depiction of a militaristic state and an unquestioning society took the original 1959 novel and twisted it into an over-the-top pulp classic that still resonates today. Now, you get to experience the meat grinder that is the Mobile infantry when Starship Troopers: Extermination drops into Steam Early Access. Before signing up for the chaos, you can check out more in the official trailer, and over on the official Steam Store page now
