Time Twisting Adventure XEL Has A Release Date

Time might be relative but Assemble Entertainment and Tiny Roar have just announced a firm date for the release of gorgeous time tale XEL.

The pages of your calendar might have moved on since we first heard about XEL, an intriguing looking new 3D action-adventure RPG, but we now know that players will be able to hop into game on the 12 July for PC and 14 July across Nintendo Switch. While owners of the Nintendo on the go hybrid will have to wait a whole two days more than Steam Deck owners to take XEL out and about, we’re quite sure it will be worth the delay after seeing the new trailer.

Assemble Entertainment didn’t just reveal the release date for XEL, there’s now an extra teaser trailer to give us all a little look into the future and the plot. XEL tells the epic sci-fi journey of Reid, a young woman who becomes stranded on a strange and exotic alien world. Together with her spirited sidekick, Chap, Reid must utilize her ability to jump through space and time to discover the dark secrets of the planet on which she’s landed and her connection to it.

The new trailer also reveals a better look at the striking alien environment of XEL. This strange new world plays out as a backdrop to a mashup of old school homages and familiar updates. Looking like it could be a solid mix of old and new, this seems certain to appeal to anybody who finds joy in titles like Hob and Zelda.

XEL launches on Windows PC via Steam and GOG on July 12, 2022, and on Nintendo Switch on July 14. Owners of Xbox Series S|X, Xbox Ones, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 will have to hang on until later this year, but if you can spring forward in time then maybe you can just jump straight in. Find out more about XEL on the official Steam Store Page, where you can try out the demo too.
