Remember a few months ago when Riot Games blew the world away with its announcement of a plethora of forthcoming games during its 10th-anniversary stream? One of the announced games was a shooter simply called Project A. Today, however, we know a bit more about the free-to-play first-person shooter including its name: Valorant. Even more exciting than its name, we also know that the game is coming out in summer 2020!
The game is a competitive 5v5 character-based tactical shooter that some have likened to what the offspring between Overwatch and Counter-strike Global Offensive might be like. Specifically, it is said to be “a free-to-play game of precise skill, high stakes, lethal gameplay, and clutch moments that rewards creative gameplay styles”. It pits two teams of five against one another with the action taking place across a number of rounds. Each player takes on the role of either an attacker or a defender that is part of “a diverse cast of hypernatural, battle-ready agents from real-world cultures and locations”. Each one has, of course, his or her own special set of abilities that can be used tactically to each team’s advantage.
Executive Producer Anna Donlon wrote, “Throughout Valorant’s development, we wanted to uphold the fundamental values of a competitive tactical shooter: precise shooting, lethal gunplay, and strategic execution. By adding unique character abilities that complement the game’s gunplay we believe we’re expanding upon the traditional tac shooter experience and bringing something new to the genre – and we hope the launch of Valorant will be the start of a long-term relationship with tactical FPS fans from around the world.”
While no specific date is known, it’s great that the game is coming out so soon. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more. In the meantime, head to the Valorant official site to learn more.
