Apex Legends is about to kick off an unprecedented event in the free to play shooter’s history. A brand-new crossover comes to the Outlands tomorrow, welcoming the wildly hyped Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to the arena. Fans of the hugely successful RPG remake will be able to carry Sector 7 with them as they load up a very different type of challenge, with a range of cosmetics and cool weapons that are prised right out of the series.
36 items will litter the deck, giving players plenty of opportunity to suits look like Tifa or just wield a ridiculously oversized sword. A new Death Box and the Mythic Buster Sword R5 Melee cosmetic, that can be used by any Legend, are just some of the items on offer in event packs. If you’re looking to just cash in rather than wait for RNG, then 6 Iconic Legend skins will be available via the store as well as the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Event packs†, including Wraith, Horizon and Crypto skins.
There is, however, more to this than just looking like you belong in another world. The Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII Rebirth action also adds a bunch of gameplay features. Teams dropping into action will find Materia littering the way. Adding a new source of power to your favorite heroes, these little glowing orbs come in many varieties, each adding a different buff.
- Blue Materia – HP Absorb – Damage enemies to heal yourself.
- Green Materia – Lightning – Reload an empty weapon to emit a shock nova, damaging and slowing nearby enemies.
- Purple Materia – Crit Rate Up – Random criticals provide extra damage.
- Red Materia – Summon – Summon a Nessie companion to attack your foes.
- Yellow Materia – Assess – Damage enemies to see their remaining health.
Big Swords Big Damage
Anything involving Square’s iconic RPG wouldn’t be complete without a big buster sword, and this time is no different. Take a look at the new BR Takeover. During the collaboration keep an eye out for this incredible weapon option. Pick it up and wield the power of a Buster Sword R2R5. This huge blade unlocks light and heavy attacks, a familiar block mechanic, a dash function, and an incredible Limit Break that can turn the tide of an encounter.
