MMORPG Wayfinder Sales Stop But The Game Isn’t Over

Wayfinder Sales - wayfinder stands on a path

Developer Airship Syndicate have announced that Wayfinder sales are now paused across PC and PlayStation.

The team behind Wayfinder have announced that eager heroes won’t be able to pick up Wayfinder for the immediate future. In an announcement last night, the Austin based outfit confirmed that sales of the promising MMORPG have been paused. Players looking to pick up a copy of the title on PC or PlayStation platforms will find that the buy button is no longer available, but it seems this is only temporary.

Going AFK?

After initially launching as an Early Access title under the Digital Extremes library, Wayfinder hit an unexpected bump in the road. The studio behind hit free to play sci-fi adventure Warframe might have seemed like the perfect home for this underdog MMO with tis mix of open world and repeatable instanced content. However, a recent restructuring at DE meant the publisher cut ties and left the new adventure in a limbo of sorts. Last night’s announcement confirms that after 5 months, Airship is now beginning to transfer Wayfinder entirely back to it’s home studio. There’s no indication exactly what lies behind the lengthy wait to kick this off, but it does mean the business model might undergo some tweaks.

When we founded Airship it was to create great games in compelling worlds, with memorable characters and adventures. With those core principles in mind, we’ve spent the last several months working behind the scenes, challenging some of the core ideas in Wayfinder and creating an experience that remains consistent with our standards and beliefs. We did this while keeping in mind that we want to respect our founders and excite new players – all while staying feasible as a business model for us as a new independent publisher. We plan to share these changes soon, but we aren’t quite ready.

Existing owners of Wayfinder’s Early Access packs can still continue to log in and visit this impressive adventure. Despite a rocky start and some server crushing experiences, Wayfinder remains a unique and bright glimmer on the MMO horizon. A distinctive aesthetic stands out from the drudgery of high and low fantasy, dropping players onto a far off world where science and magic mix. Navigating what’s left of a devastated world as a resurrected hero, a mix of explorable open worlds and instanced dungeon content really made an impression on us during our time in game.

Keep an eye on Wayfinder over on the official website. Despite going independent I doubt this is the last battle against the Gloom.
