A Smite Sequel Is Coming

Hi-Rez has unveiled a Smite sequel is under development.

Smite 2 is coming. The follow up to this long-standing name in the MOBA scene was revealed during the weekend’s Smite World Championships. Developer Titan Forge Games revealed that the incoming update will build on the success of the first arena battler and enhance the experience wit a swathe of improvement and updates. However, you might have to wait a while for the full release.

After its initial launch in 2014, SMITE has grown to become a name synonymous with the MOBA. Alongside the likes of League of Legends, this mix of online action and PvP set the bar for the genre. The news of a new version of the iconic brawler means that players on n Steam and Steam Deck, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, will be able to jump into a refreshed experience. The second Smite will take everything that players love about this series but bring state of the art visuals, animations and gameplay. The reveal promised refined user interface, updated audio, clearer spell effects and fresh physics-based abilities, a new back end, cross play support, gameplay changes, better kit support, and more. The list of updates is extensive.

Just to ensure that long term players won’t feel like their time spent in the early arenas isn’t wasted, Hi-Rez announced a Divine Legacy program. This will convert gem players have previously spent will be converted into Legacy Gems in SMITE 2, These can be used to grab 11 unique skins, badges, Gold Mastery levels, and cross-generation skins that work across both games. This hasn’t entirely softened the blow for everyone in the Smite community, with reaction already being mixed. That said, support for both titles will proceed simultaneously, and Smite 2 isn’t going to launch son.

Alpha testing is on the horizon, but a firm launch date hasn’t been announced.
