Gaming in the cloud just got significantly cheaper with a new Kickstarter campaign for the Abxylute Streaming Handheld
Cloud based gaming systems are about to get a whole lot less expensive thanks to a brand new Kickstarter campaign for a sub $200 handheld that looks set to undercut the likes of the Logitech G Cloud. Following the format of current Switch styled cloud consoles, this new attempt to cut the cords for online can be found over on the Kickstarter website, with pledges beginning at just under $200 USD, or a more precise 1,564 HKD. For this low low price, you won’t get a new NVidia GPU. Instead, this is all about the end user experience.
Specifications
The device does feature a 7-inch, 1920 x 1080-pixel LTPS LCD display, game controllers including hall effect joysticks and sensors, a gyroscope for motion controls, two vibration motors and stereo speakers. It will happily present most games at 60FPS, thanks to the quad core ARM Cortex-A53 processor under the hood and 4GB Ram. This compares to something like the Logitech g Cloud that crams in an Octa-core Snapdragon CPU that manages 2.3GHz.
While this doesn’t really sound like much, even compared to my DIY water-cooled mobile phone, the dedicated platform isn’t doing all the number crunching here. These cloud gaming handhelds are largely a pr3entation layer for the likes of GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud systems. However, if you’re struggling to find the time to log in at the desk or just want some space to goi play some Witcher 3 in another room then this type of solution could be a great deal more viable than a Chromebook for gaming. While we haven’t had hands on with the Abxylute yet, it’s an interesting proposition that looks likely to undercut the opposition. Check out more on the official website now.
