Daybreak Games has revealed its next chapter that is aimed to focus on its core franchise games. Called the “Franchise First” initiative, the move allows each of the three new studios to continue to develop and “amplify” existing properties and work on the next generation of games. To do so, the company has revealed three new studios: Dimensional Ink in Austin, Texas, Darkpaw Games in San Diego, California, and Rogue Planet Games also in San Diego, California.
Dimensional Ink is the studio charged with the continuing development of DC Universe Online, a super-hero based MMORPG. The studio will be led by Jack Emmert who has been instrumental in the development of City of Heroes, Star Trek Online, and Neverwinter. The studio will also be working on “its next high-profile action MMO” beginning this year.
Darkpaw Games will focus its attention on EverQuest and EverQuest II. This studio will be led by Holly Longdale and will “expand upon the amazing fantasy adventure” that both games embody. It will also work to “develop the studio’s next innovation”.
Rogue Planet Games is made up of developers who have been instrumental in the development of PlanetSide and PlanetSide 2. It “will craft even more unique experiences in the space under the leadership of Andy Sites. The team is looking to develop its next genre-defining game for fans of shooters”.
