Join the Disaster Band, play tunes, lose friends
Disaster Band is the Trombone Champ multiplayer we didn’t know we needed, and this chaotic musical is a great accompaniment to the new year. Launched when we were all busy putting together best of the year lists, the title from PRODUKTIVKELLER Studios and Toplitz’s SunDust label is now available worldwide. Available on PC, via Steam, this performance takes the simple yet addictive ideas behind other sliding scale systems and piece it together for a pick up and play rhythm game. The simple scroll and click control system means anybody picking up Disaster Band can play any note they like, but you’ll need to stick to the tab to increase your score.
Adding to the mix of practice makes perfect and music based silliness is a multiplayer twist. Featuring a range of instruments and up to 4 players, getting on stage can be something of a challenge. Players can connect with their friends online and perform together. Alternatively, they can team up with total strangers for a jam session and see what beautiful chaos they can make together.
As if the multiplayer mayhem of Overcooked or Get Packed and the simple joy of Trombone Champ weren’t enough, Steam Workshop support means that aspiring artists can create their own tracks and share them with a community full of Disaster Bands on their way to fame. Sorry, there’s no fortune on the horizon, however. Instead, Disaster Band owners can compete to top the leaderboards locally and across the globe, because it’s all about being famous, right?
If you want something a bit more social than Wandersong and a little less visceral than Hellsinger then check out the trailer and grab Disaster Band on Steam for less than the price of a double LP.
