Forget your dice, The Pokemon Company has unveiled a brand new play at home adaptation of the long-running Pokemon TCG.

The Pokemon Company has just announced a brand new entry in the wildly successful pet battling franchise. Players who want to put down their Nintendo Switch and turn off their mobile phones and get some quality time with the family can still pit mini pet monsters against each other when the Pokemon Battle Academy board game hit shelves and online stores on 31 July 2020. This new Battle Academy game is a ready made adaptation of the long-standing Pokemon Trading Card Game, bringing players everything a master needs to take to the arena for an evening of furious competition.

In The Box

This new pokemon home setup combines the same classic gameplay that long standing veterans of the original card battler will be familiar with, but with an easier entry for those more casual gym trainers. Battle Academy box comes with a two-player game board, three 60-card decks, tutorial guides, and gameplay accessories. While it might not be Monopoly, The Pokemon Company seem to think it’s probably a bit of a safer choice anyway.

“Battle Academy is designed to be easy to learn and fun to play for all types of Trainers, including children and parents that may be new to the Pokémon TCG,” said J.C. Smith, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “Pokémon has a unique ability to bring people together, and we look forward to seeing families enjoy Battle Academy at their next game night, as parents bond with their kids over one of their favourite entertainment brands and collectable Pokémon TCG cards.”

Anybody who doesn’t feel like getting around the table for some one vs one can still play the new format digitally. A code card comes bundled in the Battle Academy pack that allows trainers to enjoy the Pokémon TCG digitally through the free-to-play Pokémon Trading Card Game Online app on iOS and Android, as well as on Pokemon.com. Whether you are a seasoned veteran of Pokemon Yellow or even the Game Boy Trading Card Game, the new Battle Academy is likely to open plenty of new players up to the Pokemon TCG when we’re allowed back outside.
