Arker: The Legend of Ohm, one of the top NFT-based blockchain games to have launched so far, has said it’s evolving its metaverse-based virtual world into a more immersive, 3D environment.

The popular play-to-earn metaverse game said in an update that it’s planning to launch an Alpha test version of its 3D gaming platform later this year, probably in the fourth quarter. It’s a big, big update to an already very big game that’s available to play on Android, iOS and Windows. As one of the leading blockchain-based games, Arker takes players and their cute monsters on a quest with the mission being to reclaim control of the Kingdom of Ohm, which has been beset by dark forces.

The gameplay involves a mix of player-versus-environment and player-vs-player quests and battles, with players able to earn cryptocurrency rewards whenever they’re successful. In this way, players can even make a living from playing the game, as those rewards can later be sold for Bitcoin or another virtual currency through various cryptocurrency exchanges.

Immersion is the name of the game for the coming 3D version, which is being built with the Unreal Engine development platform and promises incredibly realistic graphics. Within the 3D Arker metaverse, players can step inside the city of Ohm and explore it on foot, street-by-street, entering numerous buildings, visiting the market for upgrades, and even venturing outside the city gates. They’ll meet numerous characters along the way, including other players, battle other champions, and help strangers as they complete a variety of quests to earn rewards.

The 3D version of Arker will uniquely enable crossplay with the existing 2D version. The two games are designed to live alongside each other so that players without a high-end gaming laptop or expensive graphics card will still be able to participate. As players jump from 2D to 3D or vice versa, they’ll be able to resume the game with their same character, with access to the same weapons, saving their progress along the way.

“We have to emphasize the point that we are not neglecting the current 2D version or the progress of the players in it,” the company said in a statement. “We also have to make clear that the 3D version we are working on for this year is an alpha version, in which the game will be tested in a controlled way.”

Perhaps the most exciting thing about the update is the new gameplay it will enable. The 3D Arker will introduce a variety of metagames, with players able to play football, spray graffiti on buildings in the city, race across the rooftops, Parkour-style and much more. And of course, there will be crypto-based rewards for completing all of these mini-games.

Here’s a quick preview of what to expect:

The 3D version isn’t quite ready for launch just yet, but in the meantime Arker fans will be content with another big update to the 2D version, which brings better graphics, improved global economics and new game features.
