Rare shared some big news for its pirate-y community. Not only have over eleven million players set sail in the game since it launched nearly three years ago, but they will soon have the opportunity to score some epic in-game goodies thanks to the arrival of a season pass system in early 2021.
Seasonal play will sally forth in January with each season lasting approximately three months. Each season will bring a host of new content including new experiences, systems, and ways to play. The first season will introduce a new Merchant Alliance Voyage with pirates trying to ferret out clues to the location of a shipwreck said to be filled with a plethora of booty. Along the way, the battle pass will reward players with a variety of unique rewards and Pirate Emporium goodies.
The season pass will be split into two versions: Free and paid. The free version offers players a hundred levels to sail through to earn cosmetic rewards for both players and ships. The paid “Plunder Pass” will have its price point revealed in the coming weeks as well as the rewards it will offer in addition to those found in the free version.
Throughout each season, developers have plans to release smaller updates that will include live events, QoL updates, additions to the Pirate Emporium, and other things for pirates to plunder. Look for more information in the next monthly update scheduled for after the first of the year.
Next week’s patch will bring the annual Festival of Giving event on board, so prepare for the update slated for December 9th.
